GoWild Expands Activity Tracking to Garmin® Wearable Devices
GoWild announced today the expansion of its focus on activity tracking to Garmin wearable devices. The broadened integration builds upon GoWild’s established Garmin functionality, which was primarily available for a limited line of devices.
GoWild™ members can now use any Garmin wearable smartwatch to track adventures, and import their activities into GoWild. Within the platform, which is built specifically for outdoor enthusiasts, members can share digital stories, showcasing mileage, biometric data, elevation change and photos captured, all on an interactive timeline. Possibly the most unique feature is the ability to feel your heart rate through the phone’s haptics at any given moment during a logged activity.
“This has become an important time capsule for all of my outdoor adventures, I’ve tracked heart rate spikes at the moment I hooked into keeper fish, as well as those moments when you first see the game you’re pursuing. Our new focus brings this ability to any Garmin device and makes the functionality more accessible for all.”
- GoWild Cofounder, CEO, Brad Luttrell
At the end of 2019, GoWild showcased the total hours logged in the outdoors for the year for each member. The company will expand this feature in 2020, highlighting other stats, such as miles hiked and elevation climbed, all made possible through the Garmin integration.
With this change, community members no longer need a GoWild Connect IQ app on their Garmin device in order to import to GoWild. Previously, the sync was only available via GoWild’s hunting and fishing apps for Garmin’s fēnix line (fēnix® 5X and 5X Plus) and the tactix® Charlie. GoWild also offered its own activity tracking in app, which the company has officially sunsetted in favor of Garmin’s technology. This allows members to accurately track movement (all through an anonymized map, keeping location private) while refraining from killing the phone’s battery.
“You just can’t do the level of tracking our audience demands with a phone,” said Luttrell. “Garmin’s technology is top-of-the-line, and we believe focusing on a wider Garmin integration enables our audience to get the most out of our platform.”
Members can visit the GoWild profile in the platform to find the GoWild team’s recommended Garmin devices, which provides a range of devices for any budget or any activity.
