270 is a perfect all around caliber and a gun that all serious hunters and gun enthusiasts should have in their collection.

I may have many different calibers bigger and smaller and love them all.

But my 270win has always been my go to weapon due to its versatility on different size animals.
It has successfully harvested me many animals. 99% of which never took a second step after the 1st shot hit.

Like-- Pigs out to 500y, countless Whitetail from 20-350y, Coyotes (1 at 428y), Elk, Mule Deer, Fox, (no bears yet but not for lack of trying)

All of this being said I think 6.8 western is going to be my next gun purchase and possibly my new all around gun if I like it.

Because it shoots like a 270 but hits the target like a 300win mag.

But there will always be a 270win ready for a backup or if I don't like the 6.8 to take its place back as my go to caliber.

I second the 270wsm - 6.8 western intrigued me until I realized it’s just the 270wsm rebranded in the metric system 🤷🏼‍♂️

@Nate I need to check in on one of those.

@Review I've used several on your list for elk. My first elk was taken with a 270. My next 2 were with a 338 win mag. I've also used a 308 a couple times.

  • Jeff's avatar

@Review on the list you have posted, I'd say my favorite is the 300 win mag.
