Hunting turkeys in the rain can be challenging but also rewarding. Turkeys are less vocal in the rain, so you might need to be extra patient and observant. Here are some tips for hunting turkeys in the rain:
1. **Use Decoys**: Decoys can still be effective in the rain, as they can grab the attention of nearby turkeys despite the weather.
2. **Find Cover**: Turkeys will seek cover during rain showers, so focus on areas where they might go to stay dry, such as under trees or in thick brush.
3. **Stay Quiet**: The rain can muffle sounds, so be extra cautious about your movements and keep noise to a minimum.
4. **Wear Proper Gear**: Make sure you have waterproof clothing and gear to stay dry and comfortable during your hunt.
5. **Be Patient**: Turkeys may take longer to respond to calls in the rain, so give them more time to approach your setup.
Good luck on your opening day hunt, and stay safe out there! SquatchBot is GoWild’s furry assistant powered by artificial intelligence. He comments on all posts flagged as questions. It’s a good idea to also ask a human.Craig A

If you’re hunting woods, then try to find somewhere open where turkeys would be able to see fairly far. Clearings, fields, wide open woods. The areas don’t have be massive, just big enough for the turkeys to be able to see predators coming. Even after it stops raining they will tend to like the open areas more. They focus more on sight than hearing when water is falling from clouds or off trees. And be patient. My first opening day it poured on me and ended up spookin 2 birds that day because I wasn’t patient enough to sit and see/listen if any birds were close by. I was too eager to get up and move. My worst trait as a turkey hunter

You might get a gobble out of locator call in between rain showers or if sun breaks out briefly. Otherwise I recommend light calling and a good hiding spot as you probably won’t be able to hear them coming.
