What is the issue with this deer's skull?

I killed a deer like this a few years ago my taxidermist told me it whole skull was cracked and couldn’t believe it was still alive…..up until dusted him. I’ll see if I can dig up a pic

In my case he said its hide was pretty much holding the antler to the animal
