Utah Elk Hunt: A Close Call and the Search for a Blood Trail

  • Joel's avatar

I grid searched the entire area in every direction she could have gone for hundreds of yards and couldn’t find a single drop of blood anywhere. The longer the search took the more despondent I became about not finding any evidence to help locate the elk. After 3 1/2 hours of searching with no luck I ran out of light and decided to head back to camp, get something to eat and come back and search till I couldn’t in the dark. My hunting partner ended up talking me out of that silly idea and we planned to get some sleep and start the search first thing in the morning.
