    Could be a small animal like a mouse actually getting inside the trap, setting it off then crawling out. Try sitting a golf all on top of the trap after you set it. It might keep small things out but coons will have no problem moving it.

    I 2nd both above statements. Birds and feild mice will clean a dp. Golf ball on top or try rimming it with predator lure. Tends to keep prey away

    I put a golfball on all of my dogproofs not only helps with mice and birds but it gives you a easy way to know if it is set off or not and the coons can see the trap then from a longer distance.
