Dang fine buck.  Sometimes it happens quick.  If you start getting daylight pics of a buck that is normally nocturnal you better get your tail in the woods.  Those does get em in a lot of trouble.  Congrats on a well earned buck

What a way to cap off my ‘22 TN deer season! 

This buck, which we started calling “Big Boy”, eluded me and other nearby hunters for two years.  Nearly every photo over that time period was of him at night and he was never active during daylight hours. 

Three weeks ago I caught a glimpse of him trailing a doe while I was working and wasn’t hunting.  I fully expected that somebody nearby probably shot him that day, or worse a trespasser or road hunter got him.  Them he suddenly showed back up on camera two weeks later. 

I jumped a buck on my walk in that fateful morning before daylight and couldn’t see what it was.  I got setup and was changing out camera lenses when I looked up and he was walking 75 yards in front of me. 

I settled the crosshairs on him and my Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in .270 Win dropped him.  He didn’t take another step.  I spent a few minutes trying to collect myself since it all happened so quickly, and then I made the short but anxious walk over to him. Even though I was taken by surprise when he stepped out in front of me, my Final Rest Grip-n-Rip gun rest allowed me to leave my gun up and pointed down range so I could quickly squeeze off a shot with minimal anxiety & commotion.

It is hard to explain to a non-hunter or somebody who has never had a history with a specific animal what this moment is like….
