Inherited this from my Dad when he passed. It’s a Uberti made Winchester 1873 in the caliber that was developed specifically for this rifle model in 1873 … 44 WCF, or as it is commonly known now, .44-40 Win. 
Most cowboy era lever guns these days do not come in 44-40. It’s really easy to find any pre-1900 modern replica in 45 Colt, .38/.357 mag etc. This is unfortunate since lever action rifles were not available in 45 Colt because it was a black powder strait-walled cartridge that was designed specifically for a revolver. A black powder 45 Colt cartridge would foul the action from blowback into the action of the rifle which is precisely why they didn’t make them. A lever action rifle chambered in 45 Colt wasn’t available till the turn of the century when they started loading cartridges with smokeless powder. If you want a lever action rifle in an authentic 19th century caliber, .45 Colt is not one you should get. They simply didn’t exist in the 1800’s. Unfortunately it is by far the most common caliber used in 19th century replica lever rifles. 
The 44WCF was a reloadable boxer-primed brass-cased cartridge that is nearly identical to the 44 Winchester cartridge used in the 1866 Win (which was a pin-fire cartridge, meaning the mercury fulminate priming material was inside the case, much like a rim fire these days) except it was made with a removable primer. It has a thin brass case neck which allows for the brass to stretch  upon firing. This stretching seals the chamber, preventing powder residue from blasting back into the rifle’s action
