Have you ever ate one? I’m new to coyote hunting and I’m curious if they’re as bad to eat as everyone says or if it’s just a myth...

@Chad I've never had the guts to try it. A lot of the ones I shoot around here are pretty mangy, and the smell of a coyote is totally unappetizing. Steve Rinella and Remi Warren cooked one up in Mexico I believe on an episode of Meat eater and said it wasn't inedible, but they had tried it once and didn't have anything to prove as to make them eat it again.

I have heard of some old timers making jerky out of it. Enough marinade and hickory smoke could make a car turd edible.

So basically people don’t like the taste? The fact that they are scavengers was what I was thinking.

I think it's just the fact that there are hundreds of other meats that are better tasting. Scavenging is prob a big part of why they smell so bad, but best case scenario it would taste like domestic dog. It's prob mostly a mental block, but I'm not mentally strong enough to try it yet.
