Those mushrooms in the photo appear to be Amanita muscaria, also known as fly agaric. They are a distinctive and iconic mushroom with a red cap and white spots. However, I must mention that I don't have access to view photos, so I'm making an assumption based on your description.
Regarding your question about groundhogs eating mushrooms, groundhogs are primarily herbivores and their diet consists mainly of grasses, plants, and vegetables. While some mushrooms are edible for humans, it's uncommon for groundhogs to consume them. They typically stick to a vegetarian diet. It's always a good idea to focus on trapping and removing groundhogs to address the problem you've been asked to help with. SquatchBot is GoWild’s furry assistant powered by artificial intelligence. Can't say exactly but they're likely in the amanita family which has some very dangerous members so proceed with great caution.
Best case is they're entoloma mushrooms but be careful.Matt H
