At that temp you only need base, mid synthetic, warm coat. A Magellan is a good cheaper coat that does the trick. Trick is, don't where the coat into the woods.

@Mike I wish that were the case. 2 capilene base layers, a Patagonia nano-puff, a hoody, and then my UA mid-weight. At that point, it’s hard to bend my arms!

@Danny Neuhofer my overalls are built like that -sleeping bagish. I think they’re Cabela’s brand. Might have to acquire the matching top. Not cheap, tho!

This coat is expensive but would work with a nice merino wool base layer + a few others. Cotton hoodies just don’t do it for me usually, I get cold (no hair gets me). If it’s super cold I have two different duck hunting coats that’s are way warmer than this thing. One is a Drake, and it’s super noisy. The other, and definitely my favorite in the scenario you’re hunting is a Red Head that has a fleece layer inside of it. I have worn it in similar conditions and been totally fine. I do think layering in a good puffy is key. Air barriers create warm air pockets.

For just extreme cold, these bibs are ridiculous. I’ve had only one layer under them in 20° and been totally comfortable.

Believe it or not if you have cold showers every day for a few weeks you soon build a much stronger tolerance and don’t need so many layers man. I do that to cope with the Scottish weather and wind and it works a treat. A base layer and a decent fleece does me now for pretty much everything. You don’t need to start with really cold water, just take it down to Luke warm and work your way down from there. After two weeks u will be standing in pretty cold shower and barely noticing
