Here’s the breakdown. 24 Hours style.

Wednesday, May 6, 2020:
4:06 PM - Left work 6 minutes later than I wanted.

4:54 PM - Get to hiking across a sea of sage brush.

5:37 PM - Buzzed by rattlesnake while climbing into canyon. Scared the 💩 out of me.

7:16 PM - Worked my way up the canyon and found a shed.

7:40 PM - Glassed a bear. Map says it's about a mile away. Looks good sized, so I take off, stopping to look at it every couple of minutes as I get closer.

8:35 PM - Take my shot. Bear drops and can see it laying on a log. Ultra quick kill. Good deal. 👍

9:19 PM - Retrieved the bear! The work begins. 
Thursday, May 7, 2020:
12:26 AM - Start packing the first load after hangin half of the meat. Phone died after @okaycrawdad kept me company with his tunes while butchering.

2:38 AM - After getting a little turned around, I arrive at pickup. Exhausted. Can't find keys. Sleep in the canopy of the truck.

6:30 AM - Master packer, Jess Johnson arrives with food, coffee, water, and is rearing to go. Take off for the other half of bear 30 minutes later.

11:18 AM - Arrive at meat tree. Load up packs. Start hiking out.

3:00 PM - Headed to town with a full cooler.

5:00ish PM - Checked in bear with Game Warden. He takes a tooth sample, DNA, and records data for harvest records.

7:00 PM - With meat and hide on ice, I fall pass out on the couch and saw logs until morning.

And here we are. Reflecting on all of it with an immense amount of gratitude and a little bit of disbelief. Spring Bear 2020 is a wrap for me. 👍
