    @Gobbler apparently I’m too long winded by @Brad and @Chris standards🤣. This took two posts and a comment to tell a fraction of the story. Appreciate you man👊

    @John thanks John! I know you know the feeling and how high it is!👊

  • John's avatar

    @Mike most definitely, along with the lows of shooting an arrow with a pass thru on a 4x4 Mule deer we never recovered last year (but thankfully got the cow elk and grouse)

  • Derek's avatar

    Hell yeah! Guess I gotta go looking for the rest of the story though, haha.

  • Casi's avatar

    Sweet! Gonna mount him? Pretty sure you will I hope at least!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Derek haha, yeah. I make these posts as much or more for me to relive and remember, so I’m not gonna yield to the text limits🤣👊

  • Mike's avatar

    @Casi honestly, I was just going to save the velvet and do a euro mount, but Wyatt talked me into a shoulder mount and I’m glad he did!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Mason thanks man! Can’t wait to see how you do this fall👊

  • Mike's avatar

    @Review thanks!

    @Chuck thanks Chuck! A lot of guys might’ve passed on him with so many days left, but he definitely tripped my trigger with zero regrets!

  • John's avatar

    Heck yeah brother 👊 Loving the stories and sharing the trip this way!

  • Mike's avatar

    @John thanks John! This hunt lived up to the hype in my head for sure!

  • John's avatar

    @Mike that’s awesome! The way you’re sharing it makes me get excited & in a way feels like I’m right there with y’all!

  • Chuck's avatar

    @Mike he is a great buck, very semetricle, very pretty. The 28 inch 3x3 would have had me shaking. Are there bigger ones there, probably, but when the size of the animal becomes more important than the quality of the hunt I think we have lost something.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Chuck amen brother! And full velvet was on my wish list along with a representative 4x4 that had brows. The taxidermist said, “there may be bigger, but there sure ain’t prettier.” 😎

  • Mike's avatar

    @John that’s the hope man… no bragging or chest thumping, just truly wanting to share a piece of excitement and fulfillment to motivate others.

  • Derek's avatar

    @Mike I get it! I do the same thing.

  • Chris's avatar

    Congratulations

  • John's avatar

    @Mike I’m loving it. It’s one of the things I love about the GoWild community. Getting to share experiences with folks, that seem to have some of the same interests & always getting positive reactions from everybody 👊

  • Mike's avatar

    @Chris thanks!!

  • Mike's avatar

    @John absolutely 👊

  • James's avatar

    Hell yeah Mike! Hell of a deer! What a dream hunt and a velvet muley is amazing! Stoked for you sir! 🥃

  • David's avatar

    Awesome Mike!

  • Amy's avatar

    Epic!!

  • Mike's avatar

    @James thanks bro! Definitely a dream for a week and a half!

  • Mike's avatar

    @David thx David👊

  • Mike's avatar

    @Amy I’ve told several people that I don’t use that word often, but EPIC is the only word that comes close👊

  • Robert's avatar

    Nice buck Mike couldn’t be more happier for ya. He will look awesome hanging on your wall and every time you glance up at him it will keep the memories alive job well Brother. Big Congratulations 👊🥃

  • Mike's avatar

    @Robert thank you sir 👊. I was born 100 years too late and 1200 miles too far east for those September days….

  • Rebecca's avatar

    👊👊👊👊

  • Robert's avatar

    @Mike I could just see you with a little log cabin and a small barn with a half dozen llamas for a pack string up there where you took your deer down.😁

  • Mike's avatar

    @Rebecca 👊😎

  • Mike's avatar

    @Robert haha, I’d prefer horses that could carry my butt too, but I’d take llamas over extra pack frames all day Iong🤣

  • Dallas's avatar

    Way to go Mike…and Wyatt. 👊🏻👊🏻

  • Robert's avatar

    @Mike good pack horse is worth his weight in gold fer sure.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Dallas thanks Dallas! I think he was just paying me back a little for the great Merriams I guided him too, haha.

  • Donovan's avatar

    Hot damn 💪🏼 🥃

  • Jeff's avatar

    @Mike awesome buck! It was great to hear about the adventures you had in Colorado.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Dave Henson thanks Dave!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Donovan yes sir! 😎🥃

  • Mike's avatar

    @Jeff thanks Jeff! Now to start planning for those 10 elk points!

  • Casi's avatar

    @Mike either way is good but glad you doing shoulder mount! Congratulations! It's well deserved hunt!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Casi thanks Casi! And now I have an excuse to go back to that area to pick it up and do some more fishing 😎

  • Carson's avatar

    Oh My God that is a giant

  • Carson's avatar

    Do you cut the head off and put it ok your bag??

  • William's avatar

    Way go mike nice buck

  • Mike's avatar

    @Carson go get ya one bud! Awesome experience. Yeah, I bones out all of the meat and caped out the head for a shoulder mount. Can’t wait until it’s on the wall to relive the memories and honor the deer itself👊

  • Mike's avatar

  • Nice Buck! Congratulations Mike! I can’t wait for season to open here, we’ve still got a month till bow season and two months till gun season lol.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Stephen Thanks dude! I hear ya man, it was a treat to get out this early

  • Appalachian's avatar

    You know there's always some slight pressure we put on ourselves to be successful in our pursuits. It's minimal on casual bird hunts or a deer hunt down the road from the house. It's seems the further you get from home and the more time invested the more immense that pressure becomes. It can definitely impact your focus and morale when combined with the fatigue that country brings. Way to keep on truckin and making it happen! 👊

  • Mike's avatar

    @Appalachian thanks man. Indubitably 🤣🤣. Compound it with the 19 points burned and man….. when it hit me that it happened, I literally tackled Wyatt and let out a war whoop without consciously intending to. We both laughed out butts off. Raw moment for sure.

  • Robert's avatar

    Great deal

  • Mike's avatar

    @Robert 👊

  • Ian's avatar

    Congratulations! That’s some crazy altitude!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Ian thanks man. Amazingly, our lungs were fine the entire trip. Wyatt’s calves and my quads went through the ringer though🤣

  • Drew's avatar

    Awesome

  • Mike's avatar

    @Drew 👊

  • David's avatar

    Beautiful velvet buck. Great story, so far, I'll have to find the rest of it. Congratulations!👍👊

  • Appalachian's avatar

    @Mike 🤣 Definitely compounded with that much time putting in for points. That's awesome!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Appalachian just got a text from the resident we met out there that used 10 points. (90% of the tags are allocated to residents so they get in with a lot less points). He got a 3x3 on the last day and was relieved. I was hoping he’d shoot a giant because he was a good dude. Makes me feel even luckier!

  • Appalachian's avatar

    @Mike that's pretty cool, most of the residents we bumped into in CO in the otc unit weren't too friendly, we did bump into one guy solo packing out an elk on his 3rd trip out. He was pretty cool and told us we were crazy for going to the canyon we were but there definitely elk in there. ( rough pack out because of beetle kill blowdown) He was right. Wish we would have kept in touch.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Appalachian I’ve met both. The elitist “home” defender and the welcoming kind. I’ve found that the weekend warriors are the rude ones and the ultra hard core are pretty cool. They know that they’ve got what it takes to get deep like you guys did going into that hole. I was thinking this would be my last hard core mountain hunt. Now I’m addicted and figuring how I can get back🤪

  • John's avatar

    @Appalachian such a shame that envy and ego shine thru on some of those in the backcountry. In my 2 successful trips I’ve largely encountered those more on the positive side. However we didn’t typically sit in camp or just go off the arc/logging roads. We went deep, up/down and got after it. Congrats! As my dad used to tell me, you’re better than that, be better than that - I’d rather greet people with a smile and a warm handshake than a gruff look. Keep on keeping on all!

  • Mike's avatar

    @John right. The cool guy we met on this trip was actually 4 days before the season while scouting. That’s probably why he had instant respect for us, seeing we were as hard core as he was and on foot, deep off the trail that early. The only other hunters we met were from Kansas at a trail head going in. When I approached them to build a plan to stay off of each other’s toes, they thought that was pretty cool, not confrontational.

  • John's avatar

    @Mike terrific! That’s largely what I’ve encountered. Awesome stuff!

  • Chuck's avatar

    Congratulations!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Chuck thanks Chuck!👊

  • Skyler's avatar

    What kind of watch is that by chance? Nice buck!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Skyler thanks man! It’s the GARMIN Fenix 5

  • Appalachian's avatar

    @Mike @John That pretty well describes the people we bumped into. We ran into the elitists at a little general store, miles from where we hit the woods. Just trying to be friendly and ask if they had had any luck and talked to like a dog.

    We ran into the guy solo packing about 11 miles deep on foot and he was awesome and gave us a few tips for the canyon we were headed to, he'd "been there done that" and wasn't planning on ever doing it again 🤣

    As we were about to leave a father/daughter combo on horses road into camp. We told them we were leaving and they began to setup camp. They didn't seem thrilled we had been in there but were friendly enough.

    I can't wait to get back out there either, but our archery season opens this season and for now it'll do! 👊

  • John's avatar

    @Appalachian agreed on the “can’t wait till next year!” Sentiment as well. I head out for Moose camp in a little over 7 days and then archery in MA/NH and possibly up to NY to a buddy’s hunting camp for a Nov/Dec weekend. But the counter is already ticking DIY 2024 in CO! (That’s my shoulder mount of my 2021 - 6x6 in the countdown screen).

  • Appalachian's avatar

    @John Nice, I'll be deer hunting the next week or so, then a deer bear combo, then in FL stalking the flats for reds, snook, baby tarpon, trout. Then off to NoDak for some waterfowl. Good luck out there!

  • John's avatar

    @Appalachian awesome! A little pheasant hunting will also be sprinkled in here. Good luck brotha and be safe out there!

  • Joe's avatar

    Wicked nice buck man, congrats! I’m glad to see you’re still crushing it!

  • Mike's avatar

    @Joe thanks bro! Good to see you!👊

  • Joe's avatar

    @Mike likewise, hopefully I get to hunt more this fall. I get to take a trip to southern AL for the next 3 months playing the geo-bachelor game for a flight course. If my schedule allows I’ll be taking weekend excursions throughout the state to hunt the national forest and hopefully fill a few tags.

  • Mike's avatar

    @Joe excellent! Good luck and enjoy the adventures man👊
