I’ve done a lot of deer skulls but never a turkey...that does look like more of a challenge🤣

Man the upper jaw below the eye is miniscule man! Lol

That looks like fun!! Going to try it if I can bag a bird.

I have a turkey skull from my big Tom I killed last year, their bones are so brittle I let bugs get at them for about 3-4 days then put them in a bucket of water and the meat usually falls right off

  • Brad's avatar

Ok I have to try this

I’ve done this a few times before. Small skulls are harder to throughly clean.

  • I have done a turkey and a few duck skulls with my beetles. They are hard to do. I put my peroxide in a spray bottle and spray them a little everyday to whiten them up. Good luck with it.

@🐊 I just cut off as much as possible and then did a boil of the skull and hand cleaned it. It was a lot of work! I guess I need beetles

    @Brad Put up pictures brother

  • @Kevin looks good. I never would have been able to do it boiling it.

You'd think their smell would be better with the nostrils!

I like it. Makes me want to try to do one.

Looks like shit. Not degreased or whitened yet. Missing the eye rings. they do on these for 12 years now. Delicate

Looks like shit. Not decreased or whitened. The eye rings are missing as well. been doing these for 12 plus years they're very delicate.

Here are a couple I cleaned with beetles!

@🐊 my first thought was I’m gonna have to try this. Thanks for the tips

  • Kevin's avatar

@Cassie Damn those beetles are efficient

  • Cassie's avatar

@Kevin They are! I've tried boiling and never had good results , so yours are looking good!

  • Kevin's avatar

@Rob , I had just picked at it and haven't done any whitening not to mention I was just screwing around for fun. Everyone on here are good positive people and we don't make shit ass comments to one another. So take a hike and keep your judgemental comments to yourself

I'm gonna try this for sure if I get one.

  • Richard's avatar

@Cassie That’s awesome. Where do you get beetles?

  • Kevin's avatar

@Cassie Thanks brother trial and error for sure!

  • Michael's avatar

@Cassie how many beattles will I need?

  • Cassie's avatar

@Richard Thank you! I purchased my starter colonies off Ebay and Amazon.

  • Cassie's avatar

@Michael A small starter colony from an online vendor should clean a skull in under a week especially if you remove excess meat.

  • Michael's avatar

@Cassie thank you. Yours look really good I hope I can do as good of job

  • Cassie's avatar

@Michael Thank you! I do bleach mine after they are cleaned to get em nice and white.

  • Michael's avatar

    @Cassie ok thanks

  • Barry's avatar

I’ve never done this, only did one deer and boiled it , what do you mean beetles and what kind are they, can somebody inform me

  • Erika's avatar

This was mine from last year.

  • Kevin's avatar

@Erika Wow beautiful! Puts mine to shame... well done! I will be bleaching mine next but that looks flawless

  • Nicholas's avatar

@Rob whoooeee! I can tell you’re the popular guy at parties.

  • Erika's avatar

Thanks Kevin! Your's actually looks great! A peroxide soak, some bleaching in the sun, and a light spray of clear coat and your's will look perfect!

  • Erika's avatar

@Kevin just give it an overnight soak in peroxide, set in the sun for a few days, and a light spray of clear coat it it will be perfect!

  • Kevin's avatar

@Erika Awesome thanks! I'll do it and let you know how it turns out

I've only been hunting since 2012 but I've been blessed enough to have great success with rifles, shotguns and bows. I'm happy to hunt everything from quail and pheasant to boar, deer, bear you name it. It's a hunters life for me! Have fun, enjoy the wild and eat well. There's no where else I'd rather be, especially if my kids join me on the adventure!
