It’s amazing how fast a coyote is isn’t it?

  • David's avatar

@Coyote yes sir. I could have got him with my 270, but a 22lr is difficult to hit something standing still at 100 yards with a rifle. 22lr at 100 yards out of a pistol is super difficult.

    Do you hunt coyotes?

  • David's avatar

@Coyote when I can. I call them in, and I have to wait a while between hunts so they don't get wise to me. I have a few raiding my dirt holes without getting caught. they are setting off dp traps and getting the bait out. we caught them on surveillance cameras on out hunting cabin. I don't know how to get the videos off the dvr and on my phone or I would have shared then here. folks would laugh hard at them.

Then you know shooting at that coyote may make it harder to call in. Letting places rest awhile will help a lot. One good thing though is you wasn’t calling. Nothing educated a coyote faster than getting shot at. Since you wasn’t calling it may not associate calling with a gunshot.

@Coyote yeah they were back last night. so it didn't phase them at all.

@Coyote those same coyotes were under the feeder I put up by the house so deer and turkey would come up so my aunt and parents could watch them. I didn't shoot the rifle or pistols at them cause there are deer bedded around the field. I got about 25 yards from them as they were distracted with something they caught, I think it was a opossum, and kicked on my green preditor light on my bow well above them so they wouldn't see it come on. drew to full draw, settle the sight and my anchor. lowered the bow into for and got the light on then. settled my pin on the obvious alpha's shoulder. started going through the release process building back tension and letting that work the trigger on my release, right as the release fired at the point there is no way to stop the stupid neighbors little collie dog came running into the field and the coyotes scattered and I missed by about three inches due to that stupid dog making them jump. I use luminocks and saw the arrow fly right past him right where his heart was when the release fired. the luminock disappeared into the waiste high grass. we mowed this morning and still didn't find that $20 worth of arrow/broadhead/ luminock. I really hope that stupid dog didn't cause me to wound a deer. the nieghbor and I had a conversation about it this morning. he helped me look for the arrow or signs of blood before I mowed the area. we didn't find blood either, but my heart is still hurting from the thought that there might be a wounded deer out there with an arrow in it because the nieghbor won't put their dog in the house at night. they don't have livestock, so there is no reason the dog needs to be outside at night. I'm glad I didn't hit their dog with that shot either. so happy birthday to me I got to probably set back all the work I have done to get the deer back to the beginning, possibly wound one, and lose an arrow because of that dog. the coyotes came back as soon as I left the field to grab what ever they had killed, so it

@Coyote didn't even bother them I shot the arrow. I saw them grab and run. all five of them. I'm going to have to get in the tree stand and kill them. I have tried everything I can find to get them in a trap and they are some how stealing my bait without getting in the traps. I don't want to do snares because of nieghbor dogs and deer. these coyotes have to go.

However you have to get them. I’ve never trapped, I only hunt them.

  • David's avatar

@Coyote yeah I gotta get them cause less than 100 yards from the house in an open pasture that adjoins the front yard is way to close and bold. I'm trying to get them with as little noise as possible but it isn't going my way. they keep getting away. everytime something stupid goes wrong. one day it won't go wrong though. on that day I will have a coyote head dress and coat possibly pants too for the purpose of hunting more of them.

  • Coyote's avatar

Oh I’m telling you now. When you get this one you’ll be addicted to it.

  • David's avatar

@Coyote it is at least ten. I saw ten but could hear more in the woods.

After you boil, dye, and wax your traps only handle with gloves, use separate gloves for lure, bait, etc. Never cross contaminate. If needed double bed, put one trap back 9” and to the right 3” from the first trap, don’t bait the second trap.

Texas

I'm a mildly autistic (aspergers) wierdo that spends all day everyday outdoors with my son and my hound. my son is autistic also, and one of my daughters. we love to camp, hike, trap, hunt, fish, kayak, motorcycles, fast trucks, and the color purple. if it is strange to other people then it is probably something my kids and I enjoy. we live in north central Texas, so we have a little of everything to hunt. our favorite quarry is feral hogs, and things that want to eat you back. if we kill it we eat it cause that is what my grandma taught me. I am also disabled from osteoarthritis and fall sometimes from it, but I get up and keep going when my legs start working again. the way I see it is falling isn't gonna stop me from being me. it already took my job, not taking my freedom to be me.
