How do you make sure the antlers retain true to life spacing? My dad once cut a 2x4 and attached it to the antlers with eye screws because he was convinced the taxidermist let the antlers shrink in. Back then it all had an air of a lot more secrecy than now. I think we both thought that the actual skull was preserved in the mount.

We just measure the distance between the base of the antlers and the eye socket. The angle is fairly easy to keep by lining up the skull plate with the form.

@Michael nice taxidermy job and deer

I meant that's a nice deer as well

@Ezekiel yeah he’s a nice one. Especially for a Wyoming whitetail

    That a 12 point Buck!?

  • Michael's avatar

@Ezekiel yep! We call him a 6 point here though

  • Ezekiel's avatar

    That's interesting...Why?

  • Michael's avatar

That’s just how it is around here haha. Like a 6 point bull elk or a 4 point mule deer. If the points aren’t the same on both sides then we’d call it a 4x5 or 6x7 or 5x8 or whatever it is

Ok so if an elks got 4on the left and 5 on the right, then that's a 4×5
