@Jacob oh man I miss it, I started on my own when I was 12, by the time I went to college I had a couple hundred footholds and ran snares too. Just don't have the time for it like I used to. But I remember the fire, it's awesome, just like Christmas every time you run the line. I got to where I was 95% blind setting for everything, I really love the snares cause I can carry a ton and they take seconds to set

@Appalachian I just got me a dozen of snares this year to try out. Can you help me out, I but some 9 gauge support wire and I didn't know If I should dye them or just leave them as is?

@Jacob you can do either, but can't hurt to dye. If you like the snares you'll wanna start making your own as it's alot cheaper. I always boiled them to get the factory grease out of the cable then spray painted them camo. Just let em hang outside for a couple weeks. You can dye them if you want but some dyes make the cable gummy and the snare won't close fast. Make sure to make the loop appropriate for the target species , size and height matter, I always put a couple "chin up" sticks (small branched twigs) on either side of the snare as many k9 run with their nose to the ground.

@Appalachian Awesome! I didn't know any of that! Thank you for the advice. I cleaned and dyed my snares they seem to be working good still. I just used logwood dye on them and let them soak in it about half the time I did my traps. What size loops do you recommend for coyote or foxes?

@Jacob to be honest I never measured, just eyeballed it. Even if you measure you're still gonna get some weird catches around the body from time to time. On a hot run don't be afraid to set a gang of snares consecutively. Keep em far enough apart they won't disturb each other though. The furbearers will move heavy on the cold snaps and you want to capitalize on that. If you can find a few logs crossing creeks you will wear them out on it, I'm talking a little bit of everything
