    Good looking dog, mountain cur?

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben yes. She’s a year old and I’m running fix and coon with here. Got her from Wyoming from a guy who use them for lions

  • Ben's avatar

Did you get her from Wyocurs? Good luck with her, I’ve hunted with cur dogs for the last 12-13 years. Don’t have a mountain cur now but I have

@Ben thank you. She is just over a year and I’m running fox and coons with here. Got her from a guy in Wyoming who runs lions with them

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben yes from Perry at Wyomountaincurs curs

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben I’ve listened to your podcasts. Your running leopards correct?

  • Ben's avatar

I’ve seen them, they look like they do pretty good on lions

  • Ben's avatar

@Michael yes I have leopard, the papers say hound but they are more like the old style curs

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben I’ve talked to a few guys out here in Ca that are running leopards and leopard crosses. They say they are pretty smart dogs. I’m looking to see how my cur will do compared to some of the hounds and running dogs I hunt with this year.

  • Ben's avatar

@Michael they are definitely different so it’ll be interesting to compare them

@Ben I’ve heard that the leopards adapt and learn their hunting situations and that they learn to open initially on a track but then go silent till the see the game. Is this your experience as well?

  • Ben's avatar

Not exactly, from my experience and talking to a lot of people that have had them for many years is they are supposed to be open. My one female is wide open and the other just depends on the track

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben ok maybe I’m mistaken with the guy I talked to with his leopard cross dogs

  • Ben's avatar

@Michael I’m not saying someone else’s aren’t I’m just saying that’s not what I’ve seen and historically that’s not been the case for the breed as a whole. I’ve talked to a few guys that leopards that are silent so they are out there

  • Michael's avatar

@Ben I’m still learning and started with close range silent dogs but now have hunted with some guys and their hounds. I still like the idea of silent dogs but am open to other options as I grow

  • Ben's avatar

@Michael for where I hunt I like a closer range dog and I actually like a silent dog I went to leopards to be able to participate in UKC events as I’m a member of a local Coon hunters club. I’ve been talking to quite a few people lately about different cur lines being used on big game

@Ben I like your interview with Derril Fry. Such an awesome guy to listen to. I didn’t realize the striker dogs were open mouth. Very interesting story

@Michael thanks I didn’t know much about them till I talked to him.
