I hear ya, Pamela! 
I spent my whole life in Ohio, then moved to Montana in 2012, married a man born and raised there, always hunting in the mountains. Imagine his frustration when I couldn't breathe/acclimate to this new higher elevation. 
I love that you and your husband are working as a team, though. I admire that and have always wanted it.

Nice buck! I’m a MN resident, had never hunted out of state before until this past December when I went to Nebraska for my first mule deer. The terrain was no mountain or anything but for this asthmatic who’s been sick more than not it was rough! Talk about humbling, but so addicting! I also want to get out west for elk someday…

I am still a newbie here, so decided to share a couple of our older successes. My husband and I moved to Colorado in 2013, and archery hunted elk and deer every year we could get tags (mule deer are draw only for residents to those who don’t know). Hunting the mountains was very humbling after spending all our lives prior in the Midwest. So physically demanding! And a whole new set of rules for those species. 
My husband, Jeff, shot his first mule deer the last archery day of the 2015 season, near Lost Lake, east of Paonia. I shot my first mule deer in the 2017 season, near the Flattops south of Oak Creek. (See pics)
We have yet to make good on elk. 😅🦌
