The 6.5 Creedmoor is a great choice for hunting deer and coyotes. It is a popular cartridge among hunters and has gained a reputation for its accuracy and long-range capabilities. The round is also known for its mild recoil, making it easy to shoot accurately. However, it's important to note that shot placement is key when hunting any animal, so be sure to practice and become proficient with your firearm before heading out into the field. 6.5 is plenty for a deer. It's really an accurate round and flies really flat for long range shots. I have one I use for longer ranges and I use my winchester 30-30 for wooded areas. I got it for my wife and daughters to use but now my .308 just sets in the safe because I like the 6.5 better.

@Ronnie if you like the .308 honestly it's a good deer gun also. I have killed plenty with mine. I just like the 6.5 better.

My wife gave me one for my birthday a couple of years ago and I love it. 147 grain has plenty of power for whitetail and mule deer in our country. How we’ve you can back way off and makes and excellent varmint gun. Very low recoil very accurate.

I bought a CVA 6.5PRC first year I killed a buck & a wolf. No matter what caliber you use, it’s always shot placement that counts

If you go with a 6.5, I would recommend carefully choosing bullets. My son has a 6.5. It’s a nice cartridge however we hunt in swamps and tight quarters. It does not seem to perform well at close distances. He has shot several deer at under 50

Yards. Bullet zipper right through with very little damage and no blood trails. (This is probably more of a bullet thing than the cartridge). If you are shooting closer ranges on deer sized game, I would definitely choose a softer bullet that will mushroom quickly and expend that energy in the animal. I would imagine long range shots on game would be good with it but he hasn’t had that opportunity yet. Just something I would consider. If your shots are normally under 100 yards, I may look at another cartridge. 7mm08 is hard to beat for deer!
