Pretty sure I did this exact thing to a doe last year too. Never found a spec of blood after the shot. She also carried my arrow off in her back. Sure hope it eventually fell out.

Very rarely do things work out the way you expect. This is a crazy story, and I’m here to confirm that “no man’s land” is real. 
Exactly one week ago I had a doe duck an arrow. I aimed too high, thought I sailed it over her back, not a drop of blood on the arrow. Saw her give a big mule kick but eventually walked away. 
Tonight a doe walked in with a couple noticeable spots on her back. But it couldn’t be the same for because I missed her… or did I.  This deer was healthy but skiddish. Rightfully so. Right before tonight’s shot she took a step backward. The arrow hit square in the neck. She didn’t run and expired seconds later. From an ethical stand point it was about as quick as it could have been. But that’s where the amazing part begins. Upon review of the spots I could see, I realized this deer had a hole that went right under her spine. I didn’t miss that deer last week, I hit her in no man’s land. She was healthy. No visible sign of infection or other physical issues. Humans can stub their toe and want to take a week off of work, but this girl took a hole to the back and kept on living. Mother Nature is amazing.
