A late post from November, but I wanted to wait till I got him scored and back from the taxidermist. Total was 112.25.

But it was a great hunt. I remember setting an alarm for the morning, and sleeping through it! Woke up at 7 am and said “ guess I’ll just go back to bed” but my wife told me to just go out anyway. Finally get to the woods at 7:40 to see that my buddy already got a doe. We drag it to the trail, and the whole time I’m thinking that everything in the woods is probably long gone, but I decided to go to my favorite (and farthest) tree stand anyway. Walking through a foot or two of snow. Finally I sit down and catch my breath. I wait 5 minutes and use the bleat can, another 5 minutes then the grunt tube. All of a sudden it sounds like the dang woods are falling down! I look behind me and see three deer running about 25 yards away. I get ready and turn around again to see the middle one is a buck. The thought going through my head was “ dear God don’t let them turn right and run into the thicket”. But they made a left and gave me a nice broadside shot. I give a hoot to make him stop but he’s still on the move after the doe. So I lead the shot and he drops like a sack of potatoes. Thinking he was getting ready to run again I put one in the neck/spine and he was down for the count. I wait a minute then go to check him out. Turns out I nailed him in the neck the first time and the second was only two inches above that. 
Im so grateful I was able to harvest my first buck and have a great story to boot! Really shows that no matter the odds, just keep going.
