Public land buck. Best buck I’ve shot to date. Was in the teens temperature wise and there wer 37 mph gusts. Was quite the ride in the top of my swaying tree. This buck and 3 others (2 sheds and a 4 pointer) were coming in earlier in the evening. Right as he was about to walk in range a tree broke and fell into another behind me (thank god it fell away and not toward me or it would’ve hit my tree) and the bucks ran off out of site. Then about 30 minutes before sunset 2 doe came in. Then right at sunset. 9 more doe, then a shed buck, the 4 pointer, and then another shed buck, and then last but not least this bruiser. He wouldn’t come all the way in but held up around 25 yards. With all those eyes circling around my stand, I was worried about drawing so I waited for another big gust of wind to hide my movement, drew back, held and waited for the wind to stop, and then took a shot 10 minutes before the end of legal hours. Lund shot, arrow broke inside him, and he went about 100 or so yards, with a spraying blood trail that froze so fast it was like a slush instead of liquid. Easy track, but a hell of a drag back to the truck. Luckily I called my father and he helped drag him out. Excited to get him mounted. Saw him 1 other time this year beginning of the rut, but he blew by at about 60 yards and never came in to my grunt. Finally got my shot. Made the freezing and wind well worth it.
