What’d you speak it in to get it so clean?

@Kevin pure water…. I can’t believe it myself. I’m wondering if it’s because I did it so quickly. I usually use borax in the simmer but didn’t have any today. Since I usually do a peroxide paste anyway I decided to go ahead and get it done. There’s a little bit of redness along the sutures the pic doesn’t show real well, but that’ll whiten up easy with peroxide and sunlight. I used a filet knife and left very little meat on the bone since it was so fresh and easy prior to simmering. Maybe that helped too..

@Kevin I really think the “freshness” was the key. I’m gonna get on em quicker from now on. Good luck!

I love what you wrote. Be cool to have your memories written down and framed, hanging on the wall beside each. It truly is beautiful, Mike!

I’ve never done one myself but had my buddy do this one the day I shot him and he didn’t use borax either. May be something to doing them fresh like you said. Yours looks great! Very nice display. 👊🏻

@Brad that makes sense then. Must be when the fluids begin to dry up they stain. Finding time sooner is now a goal

Making me look bad. Got mine in the freezer. I was gonna boil them but one of my buddies used to do deer processing and taxidermy and he has some hydrogen peroxide that's in concentrations not available without license to do commercial taxidermy. Gonna give that a whirl I believe

@Appalachian I had straight water in a simmer for mine and it’s museum quality white. I think the sooner you do it the less staining there is. Otherwise if your wife has a hairdresser they can get you that same peroxide. I found that out in accident once, haha

Looks awesome Mike I like the quick turn around. I’m in the process of doing Kai’s elk what’s your way of cleaning the brain cavity? 🥃👊🏻

@Robert a long screwdriver to break it up and then a power washing wand right in the opening…. It works phenomenally, but dress appropriately man. Hit it from the nasal passage side as well and that gets all of the sinuses out.

@Mike my buddy is claiming this stuff is supposed to be 5x the concentration of the cosmetic stuff. He says it dissolves the meat off in minutes. We'll see about that I guess

@Appalachian I’ll bet that’s the secret for the place some guys from work take theirs to. When they drop it off he tells them to go to lunch and come back to get it. I’ve heard they were done in an hour and look great.

Nicely done! If you ever get tired of simmering, check out maceration. Throw the skinned skull in a bucket of water with an aquarium heater and it'll be clean in 1 week. That's what I do for my skull mount business but more elaborate heating elements. Congrats, great buck brother : )

@Kyle thanks man! I’ve done maceration on smaller skulls like beaver and even fish, I’ll have to give whitetail a try👊
