My 14 year old got clobbered in volleyball and walked off with a nasty concussion, so her deer season was pretty limited. She went east with me for 5 days, got skunked, and then had to take the rest of general season off. Late season became her only option to fill her tag, and with school the first 2 of the 4 day season she was down to two days, of which I had to work both. She got to go out solo around our farm, and put in her hours and miles trying to track down one of 3 known "shootable" bucks we had regularly on camera. Sunday the 20th was the last day of the rut hunt, and shooting light ended at 5. I got off work at 4, so I went to glass a property a mile from her with the intention of texting her if I see something so she could get over to me and notch her tag. About 4:45, I heard a single shot coming from behind me, obviously originating from the proximity of where she was. After a quick call from her, I headed over to find her walking to her personal best buck, her 8th in 7 years of hunting. She got her crosshairs on him at 171 yards and put one thru his neck from her. 243. Apparently he picked his head up from feeding, looked around for about 2 seconds, and tipped over sideways. Talk about coming in clutch in the bottom of the 9th!
