I treed one like that 45 years ago when I was 19 years old in a big white pine along side the river I had 2 medium sized cur / hound mixed dogs that were really gritty and would tackle anything, I popped a cap in that coon not knowing how big he was because he was in the top of the tree and back in the 70’s our lights weren’t that great and when he came down he hit my buddy artie square in the chest and knocked him to the ground he sounded like a bear cub falling out of that tree. Needless to say my dogs jumped him a big bore and he was really p****d off he backed up to that big white pine standing on his back feet and it was on then he was wearing my dogs out until I heard something splashing in the river and looked up and saw a big plott hound coming across the river towards us and he came up the bank and finished that big coon off for us lol. Come to find out I had only shot the tip of nose off so he had reason to be mad and he too weighed 29 lb my all time record as well, I found out later the plott belonged to a man that I knew that lived across the river but I didn’t know he lived there but I’m glad he did
