    My brother just shot a doe like that...not sure what the cause is besides age

    It can be caused by high starch feeding, such as large amounts of corn. It's more common in the mid west (Iowa, Illinois, kansas) my guess would be somebody is feeding large amounts of corn and other starchy additives
