The woods were on fire that morning, gotta love that rare south, south east wind in November! Hunted this same stand last wednesday and came to full draw twice on 2 different shooter bucks and seen 8 bucks total, 6 of which were chasing does. I had my fingers crossed that the bucks would be just as fired up this morning, and they were! With that beautiful moon we had, there was no need for a flashlight or headlamp to sneak across the swamp and back to the ridge. As the sun started to peak its way over the horizon, i could hear deer chasing and grunting in the bedding area close by. About 7:20 i looked up to see a smaller buck crusing up the ridge 70 yards away and a VERY nice buck behind him so i pulled out the grunt call and gave it a couple short quick grunts. The buck stopped, turned, and started my way. While he was headed towards me i heard a different buck snort wheeze in the thicket and start thrashing some bushes. The big 8 pointer got to about 50 yards and the buck in the thicket snort wheezed at him again. The 8 point decided to tuck tail and run the oppisite direction, he wasnt gunna fight the brush bustin bully. I grabbed my grunt tube and let out one snort wheeze, and the buck in the brush started heading my way with a quickness. When he popped out of the thicket at 30 yards i was unsure how this was gunna go but luckily there was some deer on top of the ridge to take his attention away from me so i could draw. He got to 15 yards broadside headed up the ridge and I let him have it. The arrow hit him hard and the buck slammed his face into the incline as he tried to get some footing on the hill, he looked weak after just 15 yards and only seconds later as he dissapeared on top of the ridge i heard him fall! My best buck yet!!! Pumped would have been an understatment, there were a few moments where i thought i might loose it but i kept it together and put a perfect arrow in this bully. He only made it 30 yards.
