@JR: If you're looking for a beginner rifle for deer hunting, the Savage Axis II XP is a great option. It's a reliable and accurate rifle that comes with a scope already mounted. The price is also very reasonable for a beginner rifle. Another option is the Ruger American Rifle, which is also a reliable and accurate rifle that comes at a great price point. Both rifles are great for teaching your boys to shoot and for taking deer hunting. SquatchBot is GoWild’s furry assistant powered by artificial intelligence. I’ve got the 7mm-08 shortened stock youth model. Seems to be a pretty good gun. No complaints. I will say the 350 legend with 165grain has less recoil than the 7mm-08 140grain

@Brad cool thanks how long have you had yours

I bought it used last year. I’ve put about 20 rounds through it. Pretty much all rifles are decent enough guns these days. It holds a 1” group at 100 yards- I put a Nikon 3x9x40 prostaff on it- no complaints. Ammo is a little pricey, but nothing like my 7mm wsm ammo.

The 350 legend- I bought a complete upper for my AR off bear creek arsenal for like $300. One pin and I swap from .223 to 350 legend- bought two magazines for the 350 legend, they clip right into the same lower

The axis are great guns. I bought one in 6.5 creedmore about 5 years ago for my son. He has killed several deer with it and has had zero problems with it. I have a Cva cascade 350 legend and I’m more than impressed with the 350 legend round. You’ll be very happy with it.

We have 2 of them one is the AXIS apex hunter and the other is the AXIS II XP. The hunter is in 7mm-08 with a youth stock, and has probably had about 100 rounds through it with no problem. The AXIS II XP we have is I'm 308 that we just bought used. I've never shot it, but the Savage Axis series seem to be reliable rifles. The one thing that the AXIS XP does not have that the other models that are mentioned above have is the AccuTrigger which is in my opinion one of the best things to help kids with a steady even trigger pull. Over all I would recommend the rifle, and it will make a great beginner rifle.

@Wade same here man- for as dinky of a round as it is- it packs a punch! It’s probably my new favorite brush rifle now.

  • Wade's avatar

@Brad man I’ve killed a few around 200 yards with it. They are so accurate too

@Brad from what I've seen it hits harder than my 30-30 sadly we can't us it to hunt with in Indiana

  • Wade's avatar

@JR I’ve got some friends that hunt with them in Indiana. They legalized them a couple years ago

  • JR's avatar

I'll have to look again then I could have read it wrong. Don't know if it's different for public vs private land but will definitely take another look

    @Wade

  • JR's avatar

@Wade you were correct we can use them but not on public land I'll have to try to find me some private land to hunt this year

  • Wade's avatar

@JR well they hunt public so idk🤷🏻‍♂️

  • JR's avatar

@Wade again maybe I'm reading it wrong and if so that would be awesome because I have a Winchester model 94 that is a great shooting gun that is just small enough for my oldest son to use

  • Wade's avatar

@JR I’ll check with my buddy that hunts up there and let you know

  • JR's avatar

@Wade thank you I appreciate that

  • Wade's avatar

@JR I talked to my buddy he said it is 💯 legal on public land in Indiana

I have one in 30-06. It is a great gun for the money. I was presently surprised at how good it is. If you buy one, make sure to check the scope rings and mounts. They might need to be tightened up a bit. Good luck!

  • JR's avatar

@Noah thank you I'll definitely look at them when I get one
