    Many hunters do use AR 10 rifles chambered in .308 for deer hunting. One advantage of using an AR 10 in .308 is its versatility and accuracy. The .308 round has good stopping power and is effective for medium to large game like deer. The AR 10 platform also allows for customization, so you can add accessories like scopes or bipods to enhance your hunting experience. However, there are a few disadvantages to consider. AR 10 rifles can be heavier and bulkier compared to traditional hunting rifles, which may affect your mobility in the field. Additionally, the semi-automatic nature of AR 10 rifles may not be legal for hunting in some areas, so it's important to check your local hunting regulations. Ultimately, it's a personal preference, and you should consider factors like your hunting style, terrain, and local regulations before making a decision. I use an AR10 .308 , I like it and agree with the above statement. It can be a bit heavy , but overall I like it.

    If your hunting with one get at least the 20” barrel. Preferably 22”. The 308 performs much better with a little length.

    You could, but I am not sure what the advantage would be.

    @Roger thanks man

    My son’s gun is a .308. It’s just a bolt action and was a great gun to start him on. One advantage I found was during the gunpacolypse ammo shortage I was able to find plenty of ammunition on the shelves at stores when so many other calibers were unavailable. Plus there’s so much data on the.308

    Best part about using an AR platform to hunt is if you are a bad shot.

  • Brandon's avatar

    @PinBall what do you mean by that?

  • PinBall's avatar

    @Brandon I mean you’ve got a few follow up shots in case you miss.

    @PinBall i gotcha

    I usually carry my Remington R25 chambered in .308. As mentioned above it is on the heavy side, but not so bad that it bothers me and I do a lot of hiking with it in and out of the deer woods. AR platforms are easy to maintain & as mentioned above follow up shots are plenty and fast. I love mine!

    @Zach awesome man thanks for your input

    @PinBall spend more time at the range, you owe it to the animal

  • PinBall's avatar

    @John I think you are talking to the wrong person amigo. I didn’t say I hunted with one because I am a bad shot. I said the larger magazine might be nice because of follow up shots. It would also be nice incase you get attacked by a bear or other critter.

    @PinBall lets all be nice here 🤣

    @John you struck a nerve 🤣. I understand the logic in both of your comments.

    If you’re worried about it being a little heavy you could look into a 300 blackout. I hunt with a 300 blackout with a 10 inch barrel so the gun in very small and light but still shoots the same size diameter bullet as the 308. It’s not a long distance gun like the 308 but around where I hunt I don’t get many shots past 150 yards so the blackout is perfect

    @Tyler i actually have a .300 blackout but the barrel is very short, almost like a pistol. I’m going on a hunting trip out to Kentucky next year and some of the shots can be up to three or 400 yards so I’m gonna need something that I can reach out and touch them with. I’m not too worried about the gun being heavy because I actually already have like 14 or 15 rifles but I just wanted to add an AR 10 to my collection to see how I liked it.

    @Tyler nice man! Awesome setup too.

    @Brandon thanks and yeah for what your about to do a .308 would be awesome, and despite the heaviness a 308 in an ar platform would be pretty sweet! Honestly the next gun I build will probably be just that just cause I think they are cool ha. Good luck in Kentucky let us know how that 308 does!
