Made a trip up to North Georgia to the mountains in search of a decent buck. I had two days to get it done. Having never hunted whitetail in the mountains I knew it was going to be tough. I spent the 1st day in the pouring down rain and heavy winds glassing and scouting. I seen several deer and found tons of sign but no good bucks. On my last day I went out in the morning in a spot I had a lot of sign in and only seen 1 small buck. A little discouraged I went back to the truck to regroup and warm up. On my way back while on the trail I stopped to grab my water out of my bag and noticed something walking along a shelf on the next ridge over at about 200 yards. I picked up my binos and sure enough a good buck walking with his head down in a hurry to get somewhere. I knew what I needed to do. I came back an hour later and as quietly as I could began climbing the ridge I had seen him on. I got to the shelf and realized there were 3 shelves stacked within 20 yards of each other I found a good tree in the middle with an almost perfect wind and climbed up in my saddle and waited patiently, glassing and checking my shooting lanes. 2 hours later I hear what sounds like something sprinting through the leaves behind me. I turned around and there he was coming towards me full speed and nose down looking for something. He stopped at 8 yards, I had maybe a 1 foot shooting lane and let the arrow fly. He instantly started crashing and fell 20 yards from my tree. Best hunt I’ve ever had.
