My dad trapped his whole life until he was about 80 years old. I used to trap when I was a kid back in the 70’s. Some great memories and good money back then. Good luck, it can be tough and fun at the same time.

Congratulations!! I've been trapping on and off since 2015, but this is my first season beavers trapping!

Been back at it now for ten years. I started when I was a kid and then life happened up until ten years ago. Now I don’t miss a season here and most years I start my season in Nebraska chasing coyotes and big coons. šŸ‘ I’ve never trapped under the ice before. It looks like a blast for sure

Been trapping since 1967, trap mostly for raccoon, beaver, coyote, anything that is legal in Illinois I guess you can say. Good luck, I love to see the younger generation trapping. šŸ‘

I trapped my 1st fox with my grandfather's help 55 yrs ago. I was 11 yr old. Since then I've trapped and lived in 5 different states. Beaver have always been my most productive furbearers. Keep after them and good luck !

@Mark I would have to say together we have over 100 years of experience, I don't know if that's a good thing or not, just makes us a couple of old farts chasing our passion for the outdoors...lol

I started trapping when my Dad would carry me around in his pack basket when he checked his traps.

@Jamie pelt prices have been poor the last few years but castors still fetch a good price. Thanks for sharing your trapping history!

@Justin glad you got back into it! I’ve only done the under I’ve beaver trapping but I’d like to build some box sets and give foot holds a shot too!

@Brian thanks for sharing your trapping heritage! I agree we need more younger generations trappers, hopefully sharing inspires others my age to learn the ropes if they can find a mentor to teach them!

@Mark wow! That’s amazing you’ve continued to traps as you moved! Thanks for sharing!

@Shawn sounds like a very cherished memory and a very dedicated father!

@Anderson glad to hear about others picking up trapping later in life! Good luck!

@Hayley you might do better snaring in that snow. Save the footholds for early season. You ever do any open water spring beaver trapping?

  • Brian's avatar

@Hayley I am always willing to help anyone who wants to learn.

That looks awesome! I'm just now learning to trap. I have coyote and fox needing some thinning on my property. Killing chickens. Got signed up for a trapping class hosted by Tennessee fish and game

I've been doing it for 3! Love it so much - beaver is my favorite target species. They're tasty too!
