On the first day out with less than an hour of sunlight left Dony spotted this dude over a mile away in the plains at the base of the mountains. I decided to give it a try and hoofed it down the cactus covered slope as fast as I could. I got down there and was 134 yds away when he walked through an opening and I got a shot and the sun was setting. I felt confident about the shot and waiting for Dony to get down before looking for it. Like a dummy I didn't mark my location before starting to look and ended up walking over 3 miles of grids in the dark in the wrong location. After conceding for the night and second guessing my shot placement we decided to get back at first light. We got there and found it 20 yards away from where we were looking the previous night in the tall brush. Luckily the meat didn't spoil and we got it out of there before the heat got too bad. It was a blast and had a lot of lessons learned.
