@Joshua: It's always exciting to come across unique antler growth! Without seeing the photo, it's hard to provide a specific answer. However, there are a few possibilities for unusual antler growth patterns. One possibility is a genetic abnormality, which can result in atypical antler growth. Another possibility is an injury or trauma to the antler during the growth process, causing it to develop in a different manner. Additionally, nutritional deficiencies or hormonal imbalances can also affect antler growth. If you're able to share the photo, it would help in providing a more accurate analysis. In certain parts of Montana we have Muley deer crossing with white tail deer. The antlers look similar to those. They are often high but tight. Also you will get various crossed features like the V-shaped tail with black tufts on the end or the opposite being a completely white ropey tail. The mule deer have a greyer tan color than the white tail but I’ve seen that flipped also. I’ve encountered a white tail doe hanging with a group of mule deer and she will bolt if she spots something but the mule deer just stand and stare. In your picture the buck has a V-shaped tail (whitetail feature) with black tuft at the end (mule deer feature). That is not a normal Montana whitetail deer feature. I think in some other states that may vary a bit but am somewhat unsure.

@Ryan interesting. Pretty sure mule deer are nonexistent in the wild in PA but hell I could be wrong

Lol! Well I have no clue then. I just take it for granted that we have both here.
