@Justin Campanelli it was so incredible I’m back at it this year in Sept!  54 and the sand continues to go thru the hourglass - do it while you still can (best recommendation I can give!)

@John Billings I just started hunting Mule deer in Idaho last year, missed out on over the counter tags this year but plan to still go out and follow my brother who did get a tag and join in on his adventure. The west has sucked me in!

Awesome!  Thinking about a DIY in 2 years.  I may have a few hunting partners interested.  If you’d like to join in along with some of your boys, I’d be game.

@Justin Campanelli no either drive in to base camp or they pickup from airport.  ATVs are provided along with horses for deep country pack outs.

We went out to scout the area (3:30 pm) the afternoon before the official hunt was scheduled to begin.  Went in up a ridge on a north facing slope, setup and called a few times.  Drew back on the bow to get a feel and the steepness was going to present a problem.  So I moved down range into a natural blind (crisscrossed aspens).  Grabbed a tree and raked, made a cow call and sat down and knocked an arrow and put the bow on my knee (4:15 pm).

I then heard a snap of a branch above my left shoulder, turned around while seated and saw the main antler tips rising up.  I slowly stood and evaluated my previously ranged locations and the Bull stopped just behind a giant spruce tree.  I pulled back and anchored my VXR, took a deep breath and let out 2 more light cow calls.

That was the trick, placed my pins at 20 top of back and 30 bottom and let the VAP 350 SS fly.  He pin wheeled up range to the left.  I was shaking and then heard a wheeze.  Went down to the creek and found first blood, heard another wheeze and a commotion.  So thought it would be wise to back out by abs get the gang at camp (4:45 pm).

The outfitter (Guide - named Dwayne) who put me in that area, found him up on the south facing slope and we were harvesting this magnificent animal at 5:45 pm!
