Gobbler Knob!

The German Jeager is the short and stubby predessessor to the gracefully flowing architecture of the Pennsylvania longrifle.  This rifle would have appeared on the American frontier during the early to mid-1700s.

This Jeager is stocked in curly maple stained medium-brown.   It’s been sealed with 7 hand-rubbed coats of tung oil then buffed to the satin sheen you see here.  The 31” long Rice barrel is .58 caliber.  Ignition is provided by an early Germanic flintlock made by Jim Chambers.

The sliding wooden patchbox is a typical feature of those rifles of the French & Indian War era.  The iron furniture had been browned and the screw and bolt heads are fire-blued to add a spark of color.

This beauty weighs in at 6.5 pounds and appears to have had many decades of careworn use.
