Any tips on finding Morels in NY? All my years in the woods and I’ve never been lucky enough to find any.

@James I wish I had tips. Yesterday and the other day were the first times I’ve ever found them and it was purely by chance. These were around a standing dead tree and the ones the other day were around a tree that is struggling to survive. The standing dead has lost all of its bark and has no foliage, but I believe the previous owners of the property said it was a cherry tree. The other might have been elm, but I’m not too sure. I wish I could be more help than that.

@Eric well that’s helpful I’m going to start looking at some standing dead trees… All of the ash on my property is either dead or dying so I’ll start there! Thank you

@James I believe I read somewhere that ash is one of a few tree types that morels tend to be found around, so hopefully that increases your chances. Hopefully you’re able to find some!
