I grew up reading, and became enamored with, the Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, and Sports Afield magazines of the 1960s and 197Os. The sporting art magazine covers from the 1940s and ‘50s stirred a fire of passion for the outdoors which has never waned. I fear those magazines are long gone. I don’t know if writers today can capture the essence of those wild places. I hope I’m wrong…

@Gobbler I do too. The people currently in charge of Field and Stream seem to have a lot of respect for the magazines roots. I joined the 1871 club to get a physical copy of the new magazine. I haven't received mine yet, but I'm hoping it will revive the feeling the magazine once had. They released a commercial for it on YouTube. If you haven't seen it I would defiantly check it out.

I think it's great it's coming back. Like Rick of @Gobbler, I grew up on reading them back in the 70s and 80s. Loved the artwork that graced the covers. It's how I always envisioned being in the outdoors was like. It's what got me into loving being out there.
I haven't joined yet, I definitely have to!
