The minimum for distance of shot was 5, but it was actually closer to 3. This was my first deer from the ground, I was walking deer trails through a swamp when I came to a little clearing. In this clearing was a tree that went up a couple feet then leveled flat, basically a 90* turn. I hopped up on that and mouth grunted a couple times. I heard crashing and he came running over a hill in front of me with a doe. He ran straight at the tree and when I shot (I have no idea how) it was a spine to heart shot, almost straight down. I didn’t think my shot was THAT drastic but I guess so!
