100 miles away I would say..

@Bigfoot I haven’t lived here long enough to know the distance between the houses and where I let it go. I’d guess about 2 miles. Rattlesnakes have a home area their summer den and winter den is in and it’s best not to remove them from that area. Females also have a nursery where they give birth that’s separate from the 2 other dens but near the summer den.

@Coyote that’s some knowledge that I did not know and now I do thank you for educating me on that.

@Bigfoot I moved to where I have to deal with them on the occasion so I thought I better learn some things about them. For instance a snakes pattern is like a finger print. If I was to come across a similar sized one I can compare it to this picture and tell if it’s the same snake. I also bought what I need to capture them without hurting them. The one pictured above is the only one so far this year and I got 2 last year. I sometimes go looking for them as well. Here’s one I found out looking where I knew one would likely be.

  • Ever eat em ?

@Aj never have. Next one with enough rattles to make it worth skinning I’m going to cook and find out.

I like snakes also. In Nebraska rattlesnakes are unprotected so you can do what you want. I need couple more with good rattles to skin and tan and after that all other will be release unharmed. I have what I need to safely capture them. I even put the word out to others around here that if they come across a rattlesnake call me and I’ll come get it and take it away for free.

@Robert Forrest I like snakes also. I know rattlesnakes well enough and have what I need to safely capture them. I also I have the word out that if anyone around here comes across a rattlesnake at their house call me and I will come and take it away for free.

There is something beautiful about something so deadly.

@Zach yes. Of the 3 I’ve caught this one was the best looking one. Half off me kinda wishes I’d come across them more often but the other half knows it’s best I don’t cause we have dogs.

@Gregg not with only 5 buttons. I need a couple more with good rattles then all the rest will be released, I like snakes and rattlesnakes are my favorite ones.

I do have a question for coyote hunting. I live in South East KS and there’s lots of open pasture, but also lots of farm ground and timber could you give some good calling tips for those types of parcels?

Sit a bit inside the tree line. I don’t ever sit on the outside edge. You want to be angle to shoot any that come into the open but also they will be more comfortable coming across when the sound is inside the tree line so they have cover. Also if any comes from the tree line your in they have room in front of you to remain in cover. They do it but coyotes don’t like being out in the open, they’d rather be in cover or very near it.
