That's a great question, @Seth! It's important to know the rules and regulations of the area you're hunting in, as they can vary from place to place. If you can't quarter out a deer in the area you're hunting in, you may need to call your buddies to help you drag it out. Alternatively, you could use a deer cart to transport the deer out of the area. If quartering is allowed, it can be a useful technique to help make the process of transporting the deer out of the area easier, especially if you're hunting alone. However, it's important to make sure you have the necessary tools and knowledge to properly quarter a deer to ensure the meat stays fresh and safe to eat. I didn’t know such rules existed. Here in Arkansas I haven’t read any prohibition against it.

Here in colorado, when hunting elk, we quarter every time. And then pack it to the top of the trail. Once we get there, we usually throw a couple quarters on a single wheel game cart and head down the mountain. That’s if the blow down isn’t too bad. And we always pack out with a partner. Just safer that way.

We are also required to leave proof of sex on one of the hind quarters. Mammary gland or scrotum.

@Jesse I was about to ask that when ever you quarter out your harvest 👍🏻. You pack Muleys out the same way?

@Seth If it’s a particularly nasty pack out, we have even boned out a few as well.
