Looking to learn. “Rig” in this case means that the dog is on the truck platform and fires off when smelling bear scent while underway right? You’re my Google here man. 

@Mike Larsen correct.  @Chris Powell  can probably describe it better, but when they "rig" it just means they are on scent in general. Doesn't necessarily mean they have to be on a truck. They can rig while you're also out just still hunting. I'm probably not using it correctly either to be honest. I'm a real experienced hunt hunter over here....2 whole hunts.

@Derek Towles haha. I’ve hunted over dogs my whole life, but bird and rabbit dogs, not bear dogs. I assumed “rig” correlated with the truck. Maybe it’s the harness rig? 

Sounds like a pretty incredible time. Bear hunting can get the heart pumping.

Saturday, December 17th was day 2 of our bear hunt in Virginia with @Chris Powell and @Heath Hyatt. That day, especially after the day we had before, we did a lot more hunting near the road. 

Early in the morning, we drove around with Jazz on the truck waiting for her to rig. Some guys in the group ended up getting on a bear and we were able to join in and assist for a bit on that chase. Later, that group ended up getting a bear. 

We had some other dogs out and ended up going on foot to find out if they had a bear treed. It ended up that they were cold trailing but we still had an incredible day hunting and watching the dogs work. Eventhough we utilized trucks and roads more that day, we still ended up putting on about 6 miles on foot. 

This was a truly unique hunting experience that I easily could see myself getting addicted to if I had more time to dedicate to the dogs. I had an incredible time and hope to be able to do it again. Gained a whole new appreciation for houndsman on this trip and anyone who says it's easy has obviously never done it before. Thanks again to Chris, Heath, Taylor, Garrett, Sam, Wes and everyone else!
