This year i was fortunate enough to gain permission to hunt 10 acres of residential. After many attempts at sitting and waiting for the deer to move through the property, I decided to leave work a little early and check a camera. I brought my bow with me just in case. I initially walked the utv trails through the property to see if anything had bedded down in the thick brush that covered the property, I took my time but saw nothing. So I made a big loop on the outskirts and headed to my camera. As I was approaching my camera I noticed movement. There were 3 doe 15 yards past my camera, I attempted to get clear of some brush to get a shot, but the does fed I to the thicket. So I backed out and circled around to head them off. I found a trail fork where if they kept coming they would have to cross one of the 2 paths. I set up, ranged potential spots and waited. I caught movement through the thicket, it was the big doe of the 3, she was headed right for me. As I waited she picked a trail and was headed to my left. She stepped out at what I thought I had ranged for 30 yards, she ended up being about 25, the shot hit a little high, but got spine. She dropped in her tracks, which was kind of a blessing when hunting residential property, not having to track a wounded deer through peoples back yards. But she was the only deer I harvested in 22, and it was a major learning curve along the way. I was very fortunate to luck into this property. Got some meat in the freezer and used a different style of hunting that I wasn't real comfortable with, overall great year in the woods
