@Mike well I woulda had one yesterday a few minutes into season if my wife wouldn't have held my gun down and popped him in the neck 🤷‍♂️

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Bentley I believe he was missing one and I shot off another, he was in full strut when I shot him

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Joe Thanks man! Not much else I'd rather do. Gonna drag out the .410 for the next one

Congrats man! I had 3 gobbling this morning but then they all shut down and went silent, don't know where they went lol.

@Appalachian yeah only problem is I was camping 2.5 hours away! 😁 I'll get one this weekend. I love hunting public but it's been so long since I got a bird I'm going to stick to private until I get at least 1 lol.

No wonder we couldn't find any TN gobblers😂😂congrats on a beaut man

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Eli thanks man, there's definitely a few less after me and my people hit the woods 🤣

  • Eli's avatar

@Appalachian yea not many left🤣🤣we been putting the miles in all over the state and straight up really can't find much of anything

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Eli Dang, all over the state? Surely you've heard a few

  • Eli's avatar

@Appalachian put a 15 mile day in around Watauga Lake and 15 miler in in Houston Valley and then drove way south and hunted around Winchester a day and didn't hear anything either🤣🤣no idea what we were doing wrong,it was gorgeous habitat but no sign or turkeys

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Eli Good grief, shoulda at least bumped a bird in that distance, what was the barometric pressure like on the days you hunted?

  • Eli's avatar

@Appalachian not honestly sure...hot sunny days and the only thing we can figure out is that it was to dry up there on the big mountains and the turkeys were all low elevation on the farm land

  • Gobbler Knob's avatar

@Appalachian I believe strongly barometric pressure plays a significant role in turkey behavior.

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Gobbler without a doubt it does!

  • Appalachian's avatar

@Eli not sure they'd drop down over that but who knows, I definitely prefer hunting in cooler weather, the past few years I've shot opening day birds around 25 degree mark and they gobbled great. I will say I prefer hunting them in the 40 to 55 degree window as I feel like they gobble alot more then than they do when Temps get above 60. High pressure days with no wind and mild Temps are often the best. But we all know some days they just don't gobble within earshot for reasons unknown and your buddy from across the county says they are blowing the woods down 🤷‍♂️
