Can a heavier line be used on a 13 fishing reel that calls for max 12 lb line?

Congratulations on your new 13 Fishing reel, Gene Elie! It's always exciting to try out new gear. While the manufacturer recommends a maximum 12 lb line for your reel, you can use a heavier line if you prefer. However, it's important to keep in mind that using a heavier line than recommended may affect the performance of your reel. It could potentially lead to decreased casting distance and may put more strain on the reel's drag system. It's generally best to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for optimal performance and to prevent any potential issues. Happy fishing! Maybe try braided line, same strength with smaller diameter. I started using it a couple years ago and really like it. Could be a little bit harder on rod eyes is the only disadvantage I see.

@Jerry thanks I appreciate the advice. I was thinking of switching my other rod over do to being my top water set up.

I don’t see why use a heavier line. I would like to know what you fishing for. 12 lb is good for bass. So I would see what I want to fish for, before changing line weight.

@Jose I’ve heard a heavier line could help move chatterbait’s move better.

Yeah no. A 12 lb. Just get a good line and you should be more than fine. I used all different sizes I never seen big difference or any to be honest. But try it your self and see what you like more.

@Jose I appreciate the advice I’ll probably just stick with 10lb test.

@Gene make sure your drag is set right like I tell any one I know. 80% is the drag the rest is line and the fisherman
