Last weekend and this weekend. I was on some roosted turkeys this morning which is also the last day of the public land season. I was calling to the roosted turkeys that were behind me on my right and they were chatting right back with me. I’m looking over my shoulder towards them and then all of a sudden I hear this massive racket in front of me and it’s 2 coyotes running at me. One was running straight at me while the other was running at a slight angle to pass me. By the time I turned my head and saw them and lifted my gun they were about 10 yards from me. I shot the lead coyote probably about 8 yards from me. That coyote dropped and about 5 minutes later those turkeys were still in the tree and started talking again and then flew down maybe 50-60 yards away. I sat down facing them as soon as they started talking and then another coyote came through from the other side of the turkeys and ran them off for the rest of the day. Only heard one other bird the rest of the day. Though I didn’t get myself a bird, I’m perfectly fine with taking this coyote. It’s my first coyote and the first animal I’ve taken with my grandpas gun. I’ve always wanted to kill a coyote and get it full body mounted. So that’s the plan! Turkey tag soup but a coyote mount trade off😂this was my first turkey season and I decided to get out and hunt so I could learn how to turkey hunt. I feel like I’ve learned an absolute ton about turkeys and I’m so excited to get back out next season to scout and hunt!🦃🦃 I also found some AWESOME squirrel hunting spots too so I’ll definitely be back out there when squirrel season opens up!
