After getting off work, I went to set up and wait on the gobbler I’d been seeing in the field. The plan was to get set up and wait for him to make his way back to roost. I knew where he was roosting. 

The plan changed when I started to the field and realized he was already in the field strutting and had the hens with him again. I made a few soft yelps and purrs just to see how he would react. He would strut and look my way but wouldn’t leave the hens he had with him. Eventually they started leading him out of the field in the opposite direction slowly.

I circled around through the woods and got in front of them. A small knob was between me and the turkeys so I belly crawled up to the knob, hidden by tall grass. Once he got within shooting range, he turned his back to me as he was strutting so I took the opportunity to raise up. The second he turned back toward me and raised his head up, I shot him!
