5th deer of the 2022 season.  I made it home from work in time to change and slip into a blind on a field behind my house.  Judging by recent trail camera activity the 2nd rut had started and the scrape near this stand had been pretty active.  I didn’t have any pictures of “trophy” bucks behind my house.  For some reason I have a handful of bucks that all have “funky” racks.  One is a 4pt that probably has 12” beams that stick straight up.  Another one has 1 normal side and one side with what I called a sword.  I watched both bucks the previous year and said I would shoot either of them this year.  I hadn’t harvested any deer behind my house since we moved here a year and a half ago, so I was itching to get one.  45 minutes into the hunt I grunted a few times and 5 minutes later caught a glimpse of movement.  I knew it was one of the funky bucks and had to make a quick shot before he hit the wood line.  I knew I made a good shot, and was excited to see how my new bullets performed, since I had been having issues with not getting blood trails this year.  I immediately smelled the buck, then found blood, and found a trail of piled up leaves, he was laying 20yds away.  The new Norma TipStrike bullets performed perfectly out of my CVA Cascade 7mm-08.  Thankful to finally harvest the “sword buck” on my home turf.
