That shouldn’t pose any issues. You can shoot shorter shells in a shotgun but you can’t shoot longer shells than marked on the barrel. 

As far as I know that should be fine. I shoot mini shells out of my 12 gauge mossberg chambered for 3” shells all the time. I just have to use an adapter for feeding purposes but with a break action that’s a non issue.
