So Friday evening  after my hunt was over I was getting ready to leave my shooting house and I was unloading my rifle and when I unbolted it and caught the shell in my hand I had the casing and a handful of gun powder and the bullet was still in the chamber, the bullet came apart when I ejected it. I got home and me and my Dad got the bullet out, we cleaned the barrel and the chamber and we thought we had it cleaned good, so I put a round in it to make sure it was going to cycle it like it is supposed to, I went to unbolt it and eject the round and it wouldn’t unbolt, I took it outside and was going to shoot it and it snapped and didn’t fire and the safety wouldn’t go back on safe, so I’m holding it with a live round in and the hammer is struck and it won’t go back to safe, we took the pins out and separated the lower and upper, took a punch and tapped the bolt back and got the round out and it come apart also, we took a air hose and blew it out good and cleaned it again and lubed everything good, got it back together and everything is working like it should, I learned a lesson about the straight wall bullets, I have only used Hornady American Whitetail Ammo in it and have been very satisfied with the performance of the ammo, if you load and load it check your bullets and make sure it’s pushed down in the casing like it’s supposed to be and rotate the the Ammo instead of loading and loading the same round over and over lol.

This past weekend I competed in the Squirrel Invitational. Two man teams, rimfire only, and can hunt anywhere legal, and of course legal bag limits only. My partner and I ended up winning the tournament with 12 grey squirrels, 5 red squirrels, and two rabbits. Unfortunately this year will be the last that it occurs because our governor decided to outlaw hunting competitions in NY. It makes zero sense when bag limits are enforced…. Another reason why this state is horrible.

During our tournament a buddy had called my partner and said he was having a real issue with red squirrels getting into his barn. So we made it a point to head there during the day and I was able to get this red squirrel at 60 yards in the crotch of a tree. I really am loving this Tikka!

Sunday evening I started to go to my favorite stand but I had worked on a feeder at another stand that morning and instead of going with my gut and going to my favorite stand I decided to go to the other stand and make sure that feeder came on at the set time. On my way out I went around and swapped out the SD  cards in my cameras. Sunday night I was looking at the pictures and a pretty nice Buck was at my favorite spot at 3::30pm, I didn’t see anything at the stand I hunted but the feeder worked like it was supposed to lol.
